Bhubaneswar, August 26: The Commissioner of Commercial Taxes department ( CT-GST), Bhubaneswar, has reportedly seized 80 Kgs of gold and 2 quintals of silver from two containers in the Biju Patnaik International Airport area this afternoon.
In this connection, four persons were detained, said the officials.
In a major crackdown on gold smuggling on Monday, a team of Commercial Taxes department officials conducted a raid near the airport area of Bhubaneswar and seized a huge amount of gold and silver.
Acting on a tip-off, the CT- GST officials with the help of a local police officer had coducted a raid on the spots where in two containers, the smuggled gold and silvers were concealed.
It is expected that the market value of the seized gold and silver is estimated to be worth around Rs 30 crore.
However, the officials are yet to furnish more details about the seizure of gold and silver and the involvement of gangs..
It is said that huge amounts of gold and silver were transported from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar illegally. But who is the owner of the valuables is not yet ascertained.
