Bhubaneswar, Sept 14: The academic calendar 2023-2024 prepared by the Higher Education Department for universities and colleges has a minimum of 180 teaching days and 72 holidays excluding Sundays.

The department has directed vice-chancellors and principals to strictly implement the common academic calendar.

The higher educational institutes across the state wil remain closed from October 21 to October 28 for Durga Puja celebrations

Moreover, the summer vacation will start on May 5, 2024, and continue till June 19, 2024.

Similarly, the annual sports and cultural competitions will be held between November 1 and 10.

However, the Common Academic Calendar has no mention of the students’ union elections in it.

For the sixth time in a row, the state government has decided that the students’ union elections will not be held in universities and degree colleges in Odisha this year which has sparked controversy in the state.

It is worth mentioning that the students’ union elections have not been held in universities and degree colleges in Odisha since 2018.
