Chatrapur, Feb 14: The Odisha Disaster Recovery Project (ODRP) Colony at Aryapalli Panchayat, a peripheral village of Adani Gopalpur Port is witnessing a visible transformation with the installation of solar streetlights by the Adani Foundation.

The ODRP Colony, developed as a rehabilitation site near Gopalpur Port to resettle families affected by cyclones, is home to nearly 800 households and around 3,000 residents. Strengthening safety and sustainability, nearly three kilometers of internal roads and pathways within the colony, along with two kilometers stretch leading to the fishing jetty, are now illuminated by approximately 100 modern solar streetlights.

Implemented as part of Adani Gopalpur Port’s CSR outreach in peripheral villages, the rural solar lighting initiative underscores the Group’s commitment to community-centric development. Beyond improving visibility, the project enhances livelihood security for local fishermen while promoting environmentally sustainable practices through clean energy solutions.

Sriram, a Class VII student, shared, “We can now safely ride our bicycles to attend tuition classes in the evening and play games under the streetlights. These solar lights are environmentally friendly and are not affected by power cuts.”

For women like B. Karamma, the change is deeply personal. Carrying a water jar along the illuminated pathway, she expressed, “Earlier, it was very difficult for women to fetch water at night due to darkness. Today, we feel safe. Gopalpur Port and the Adani Foundation have not only brought light to our streets but also brightened our daily lives.”
