Bhubaneswar: The 66th Police Commemoration Day was solemnly observed at the State Police Headquarters, with Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania serving as the chief guest.

DGP Khurania paid floral tributes and led a moment of remembrance for the brave police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. This year, the nation mourns the loss of 191 police personnel from various Central Armed Police Forces and State Police departments, who sacrificed their lives in service to the country.

A two-minute silence was observed, and heartfelt condolences were extended to the families of the fallen heroes. Among those honored were Constable 475 Laxman Majhi of the 2nd IR Battalion, Rayagada, and OAPF 353 Loknath Sabar of UPD, Cuttack. Their bereaved families were specially invited to the ceremony, where DGP Khurania personally interacted with them, expressing his deepest sympathies. He noted that their courage and sacrifice would be eternally remembered by the Odisha Police.

Reflecting on the broader national picture, DGP Khurania remarked that the once high number of police casualties has notably declined, crediting the relentless dedication of security personnel. He praised the unwavering bravery of officers operating in conflict-prone regions such as Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, the Northeast, and Naxal-affected districts, where significant strides toward peace have been made.

"Thanks to the bravery of our courageous police personnel, peace and security have been established in several Naxal-affected areas. These efforts will continue with the same resolve," he added.

The ceremony was attended by several senior police and administrative officials, including DGP (Crime Branch) Vinaytosh Mishra, Director (Intelligence) RP Koche, ADG (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sanjeeb Panda, ADG (Modernisation) SK Priyadarshi, Director (SFSL) Santosh Bala, ADG (Headquarters) Arun Bothra, ADG (Vigilance) Asheet Kumar Panigrahi, ADG (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, ADG (Communication) Dayal Gangwar, and ADG (SAP) Rajesh Kumar.
