Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: Well ahead of the assembly election, the Congress party has finalised the names of 70 candidates, said senior party leader Taraprasad Bahinipati here on Tuesday.
.Congress MLA Bahinipati revealed that as the Assembly elections are a few months away, the Congress has shortlisted the candidates. The party has prepared probable candidates to gear up for the campaign and mobilizing the workers and supporters, he added
He also asserted that the party has started working on a mission to form government in Odisha.
The party would announce the candidate names in February. The party tickets will be given to the known faces and winnability of the candidates which would be decided based on a survey conducted in the constituencies. It has been decided that 9 present MLAs will contest in 2024 elections,” he added.
Bahinipati also indicated that several prominent persons will join the Congress during Rahul Gandhi’s Odisha visit.
On the other hand, OPCC chief Sarat Pattanayak said that the district presidents have already sent the list of aspirants for 147 assembly seats. They have given 3 to 5 probable candidates' names from each constituency. OPCC has also already sent the list to the high command.
Similarly, the newly appointed coordinators for each parliamentary constituency will also visit the area and submit the report about the party nominee soon, he informed.
