Bhubaneswar, March 7: Around 62.2 per cent of students in the 14 to 16 years age group in rural Odisha schools don’t know the division. Similarly, 61.1 percent don’t know general calculation, the recently-published Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2023.

The report also revealed that 47.4 percent students of the age group fail to read English and 22.6 students fail to read Class - II books.

Around 66.9 percent students of17 to 18 age group don’t know simple division while 62.7 percent students of the age group fail to do general calculation. While 44.9 percent students of the age group fail to read English 22.3 students fail to read Class - II books.

The ASER has blamed the feebleness situation of Odisha’s government’s education system for this.

A senior official of the mass education department said the state government is under taking foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) in all schools to improve knowledge of students.

The School and Mass Education department has introduced new and innovative features in classrooms. These include colourful desks in different shapes, teaching-learning materials, picture, story and poem cards, cupboards, green boards, display boards, wall paintings, among other things. These will enrich the learning experience of students.
