Bhubaneswar, Sept 15: An Army official and his girl friend allegedly attacked police personnel in a police station in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Four constables and a woman Sub Inspector of Bharatpur police station were injured in the attack.
The Army officer has been identified as Major Gurbanta Singh, employed at the 22 Sikh Regiment in Kolkata.
As per reports, some miscreants passed lewd comments at the couple while they were travelling in the nearby area. The duo immediately reached the police station and approached to take action against the miscreants. However, the attending police official asked them to file a written complaint first.
However, Singh urged them to nab the culprits first as they might escape from the area. Police did not listen to him and insisted to follow the provision that led to a heated altercation.
Things took an ugly turn when Singh lost his cool and allegedly attacked some police personnel were on duty.
Bharatpur police immediately took them into custody and sent for medical examination. Police said Singh was in an inebriated state.
