Mumbai, June 1: In a rare cache, the Custom sleuths have seized as many as 48 vipers and 5 rare Thai-turtles from a passenger in Mumbai International Airport on Sunday.
The Indian passenger who flew from Thailand was taken to custody after the wildlife were recovered from his possession.
According to report, the man who arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai from Thailand was caught with 48 highly venomous snakes and five turtles.
Customs officials intercepted him after he got down from a flight from Bangkok.
Following the seizure, the Custom officials sought help of the
Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare(RAWW) and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, to identify and send back the wildlife to its original habitat, as per the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act.
On the other hand, the accused was sent for judicial remand after interrogation, said a Custom official.
