Bhubaneswar, October 27: In response to the sharp rise in vegetable prices in Bhubaneswar, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra assured citizens that the Odisha government is actively monitoring the situation and will take stringent measures against black marketing.

“The state government is fully aware of the current price surge. If any incidents of black marketing are identified, we will take strict action. No one will be allowed to exploit consumers during this time. Cyclone Montha has not caused significant damage, so there is no need for public concern,” Minister Patra stated during a media briefing. “I have already directed officials of the Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department to keep a close watch on the markets and take immediate action if any violations occur,” he added.

The minister's statement comes amidst growing concern over rising vegetable prices in the city. The prices of tomatoes and brinjals, which were previously sold for Rs 60 per kg, have jumped to Rs 80 or more. Capsicum, once priced at Rs 80, has now reached Rs 160 per kg. Other vegetables have also seen a steep hike, with beans priced at Rs 120, bitter gourd at Rs 100, green parwal at Rs 90, and cucumber at Rs 100.

Patra reassured the public that the government is committed to stabilizing the market and safeguarding consumers from profiteering during this period.
