Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: The cold-wave conditions gripping several parts of Odisha are expected to ease over the next four days, with night temperatures set to rise gradually, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The department has indicated that most regions are likely to experience night temperatures above 12°C to 15°C on Tuesday and Wednesday. Even in colder pockets such as Koraput, Phulbani, Jharsuguda and Rourkela, the intensity of the chill is likely to diminish slightly.

On Saturday night, the majority of locations in the state recorded temperatures above 15°C, with no station reporting a drop below 10°C. Daringbadi and G. Udayagiri registered the state’s lowest at 10°C. Rourkela reported 10.6°C, Jharsuguda 11.3°C, Phulbani 12°C, Koraput 12.5°C and Keonjhar 12.6°C. In the twin cities, Bhubaneswar recorded 18.1°C and Cuttack 16.2°C.

For Monday night, the IMD has predicted 12°C in Jharsuguda and Rourkela, while Phulbani and Koraput may see temperatures around 13°C. Sundargarh, Nabarangpur and Keonjhar are likely to record around 14°C. All other regions are expected to remain above 15°C.

Temperature deviations from normal were also noted across the state. Balangir recorded the highest departure at 2.9°C above normal. Titilagarh was 2.4°C above, Bhawanipatna 2.2°C above, Gopalpur 1.8°C above, while Phulbani and Chandbali registered 1.3°C above normal. Bhubaneswar saw a rise of 1.2°C above normal. In contrast, Jharsuguda recorded temperatures 3°C below normal.

Meanwhile, Cyclone Ditwa, which had formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coast, weakened on Sunday and has now dissipated into a deep depression.
