Paradip, June 4: In an unusual incident, at least 4 workers of an Ice Factory in Odisha were hospitalized on Thursday, as Ammonia gas leaked from cylinders.
Police and fire fighters took up immediate measures to contain the dispersion of the harmful gas and prevented people to enter into the vulnerable zone, said sources.
According to report, a few workers were engaged in an Ice-making unit at the Paradip Industrial Estate. Meanwhile, the refrigerant Ammonia gas which was stored in some cylinders leaked and diffused in air all of a sudden.
Follwing the incident, four workers present in a close proximity, experienced sudden suffocation and nausea.
On being informed, police and fire fighters teams rushed to the spot and contained the gas spraying water on the cylinders. The affected ones were rushed to the hospital for resuscitation.
Excessive water sprouting in the vicinity is yet on to neutralized the effect of harmful diffusion where as the entire plant site is protected for normal entry.
