Puri, June 8: Four employees of an event company have been detained by police for removing Srimandir’s focus light, said Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain on Saturday.
The action came following Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena's instruction to Puri Collector to initiate an enquiry into the matter and take appropriate action.
Devotees and Puri residents expressed their resentments over the inactivation of laser lights installed to illuminate the exterior of Shree Jagannath Temple for the last three days.
The incident was also brought to the attention of Governor Raghubar Das during his Puri visit.
The sudden switching off of the lights which had enchanted visitors is being linked to the change of guard in Odisha as an event company had installed those on a rental basis.
Several focus lights were installed for the beautification and illumination of Srimandir, Bada Danda and Meghanada Wall as part of the Parikrama project. As they were not installed permanently, the event company that had installed them on rental basis removed those soon after the government changed in Odisha, said a senior official of the temple administration.
