37th Danda Jatra of Maa Dakshina Kali begins in Berhampur

Berhampur, Ap 3: The 37th Danda Jatra of Maa Dakshina Kali began today in Antarabatia village here. This 13-day event will continue till the end of this month, coinciding with the Meru Sankranti festival.
The devotees wearing new dresses in shades of saffron and yellow, holding peacock feathers and sacred sticks, gathered at the Maa Dakshina Kali temple in the village. They came together at the Meru Peetha, where they performed rituals to seek divine blessings.
The group then proceeded to the village pond, where a ritualistic prayer was offered to Maa Kali. Following this, the devotees, known as "Danduas," took an oath and wore sacred paita for the 13-day ritual. Several rituals, including offerings to Maa Kali, Har Gouri Khattuli, and the Champa tree, were performed. The devotees also offered prayers for a long and prosperous life.
The rituals were conducted by Pandit Banaja Kumar Satapathy, with Ramhari Das serving as the head of the ceremony. Other prominent community members involved in the ritual include Prashant Das, Arjun Das, Gautam Das, and several others from the village.
Then the procession continued with the devotees carrying sacred kumbhs and performing a symbolic danda dance as part of the rituals.
