Bhubaneswar, July 31: At least 3.1 crore beneficiaries in Odisha get free ration under the Food Security Act, said Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Wednesday.
in response to BJP MLA Manas Kumar Datta in the Odisha Assembly, Patra said that Food security is ensured to 32,593, 875 beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) whereas as many as 1,00,244 beneficiaries are availing free ration under the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS).
The Minister also said that as many as 16,27,920 ineligible persons have been excluded from the beneficiary list after field inquiry initiated by the department.
Plans are afoot to launch the Aadhar-based e-KYC verification process to make the data of beneficiaries more transparent. After the scrutiny, the process of issuing new ration cards will begin, Patra added.
