Jajpur, Jul 19: A disturbing case of student abuse has emerged from an ashram residential school in Talagadia, Korei block, Jajpur district, where three minor students reportedly fled the campus to escape alleged torture by senior students.

According to local sources, the boys were spotted near Baladia Square by villagers on Friday evening as they attempted to flee by scaling the school’s boundary wall. When questioned, the boys revealed they were trying to escape from harassment and physical abuse by senior students.
Upon learning of the situation, local residents immediately alerted Korei police. Officers reached the spot and took the minors into custody for their safety. The boys were later transferred to the District Child Welfare Committee after initial questioning at the police station.
During the inquiry, the children confessed that they had been subjected to repeated beatings and forced to do various tasks by seniors. The mistreatment had reportedly become unbearable, prompting them to flee.
Following the incident, the police summoned both school authorities and the children’s guardians for questioning. After preliminary investigation, the boys were sent to a child care home under the direction of the welfare committee.
Parents of the affected children confirmed the abuse and stated they had previously raised concerns with the school’s headmaster. With the incident drawing widespread attention, there are growing calls from the community for immediate action against that responsible and stronger protection for students in residential schools.
