Kolkata, Sept 16: Three fishing trawlers with 49 fishermen on board have gone missing in the sea off West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, the local administration said on Monday.
According to reports, several fishing trawlers had ventured into deep sea from the Sultanpur fishing harbour in the Diamond Harbour area in South 24 Parganas district on September 10.
They were supposed to return on September 15 but three trawlers did not return while others did.
The administration has started a search operation in the deep sea being informed about the incident and helicopters are conducting aerial searches.
The other fishermen who have returned back said the engines of the three trawlers did not work in the mid-sea due to technical glitches. They failed to drag the trawlers connecting with ropes due to strong currents.
