Bhubaneswar, November 6: As the Nuapada by-election approaches, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi took the lead in a high-voltage campaign for BJP candidate Jay Dholakia on Thursday. The roadshow, which passed through Nuapada and Komna, saw significant participation from BJP supporters and residents.

Majhi, accompanied by key BJP leaders, led the spirited campaign through Komna Block, which holds the highest voter concentration in the constituency.

During the rally, CM Majhi urged the public to cast their votes in favor of BJP candidate Jay Dholakia, the son of the late Rajendra Dholakia, a former MLA. Majhi also took the opportunity to criticize the 24-year tenure of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government under Naveen Patnaik, accusing BJD leaders of misgovernance and failure to address the region’s development needs.

As the procession moved through various localities, Jay Dholakia was seen waving to the crowd, visibly moved by the overwhelming support. At one point, he was seen wiping tears as he acknowledged the warmth of the people.

All three major political parties—BJP, BJD, and Congress—are vying for influence in this area, with particular focus on Komna Block and two Municipalities (NACs) under Nuapada. The by-poll follows the unfortunate passing of sitting BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia.

In the previous election, BJD secured a significant number of votes in the region, while independent candidate Ghasiram Majhi (who is now contesting on a Congress ticket) placed second. Majhi’s influence among the tribal voters remains a strong factor in the ongoing contest.

This time, however, the dynamics have shifted. With Jay Dholakia contesting on the BJP ticket, the race has become more unpredictable. BJD has fielded Shnehangini Chhuria as party candidate and aiming to retain its traditional voter base. BJD has also intensified its efforts in the region, particularly following a recent visit by party chief Naveen Patnaik.

Patnaik is scheduled to campaign once again on November 7, with roadshows planned for Khariar Road and Nuapada NAC. Meanwhile, the BJP has pulled out all the stops, with over 40 BJP MLAs and eight ministers stationed in the constituency to ensure a robust campaign for their candidate.

With both parties now campaigning hard to win the battleground in Nuapada.
