Kabul, Sept 1: A powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake rocked eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 20 people and leaving over 100 others injured.
As per reports, the earthquake struck at a relatively shallow depth of 8 kilometers (6 miles), causing widespread devastation in the region. The tremors were felt as far away as Pakistan's capital Islamabad, over 300 kilometers (186 miles) from the epicenter.
The quake, which hit the mountainous areas of eastern Afghanistan, has led to severe damage to infrastructure, with dozens of houses buried under rubble.
Rescue efforts are underway, but the situation remains dire as many areas are difficult to access due to landslides and flooding triggered by the earthquake. Several remote communities are now cut off and can only be reached by air, further complicating efforts to provide assistance.
Taliban government officials have urgently appealed to humanitarian organizations for support, particularly in these remote regions, which are among the hardest hit.
