Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday informed that the depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression late last night.

As per reports, the system traveled north-northwest at a speed of 10 km/h over the past six hours and was located at 11:30 pm on October 1 near latitude 16.8°N and longitude 86.0°E, over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD, the deep depression was situated approximately 300 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 300 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha), 330 km south of Puri (Odisha), and 400 km south of Paradip (Odisha).

The system is expected to continue moving north-northwestward and is likely to make landfall along the Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coasts between Gopalpur and Paradip during the night of October 2.
