Baripada, Dec 5: A biting cold wave has tightened its grip over Similipal, with the minimum temperature dropping to 4°C. Dense fog combined with intense cold continues to affect the interior and foothill regions, including Jashipur, Thakurmunda, Karanjia, Raruan, and Sukruli blocks.

According to data released by the Similipal Tiger Reserve, temperatures in several key zones dipped sharply on Wednesday. Upper Baraha Kamuda recorded the lowest at 3°C, followed by Chahala at 6°C, Barehipani at 8°C, Gurugudiya at 9°C, and Kiajhari, Ramatirtha, and Satkosia each at 13°C.

Jharsuguda Shivers Under Intense Cold

Jharsuguda district is also in the grip of severe cold. Strong chilly winds have forced residents indoors, with most people avoiding stepping out before 9 a.m. Locals say they have not experienced such extreme cold in recent years.

To cope with the biting temperatures, residents are gathering around bonfires. Meanwhile, dense fog blanketed the region from early morning, reducing visibility until around 7 a.m. The thick fog disrupted vehicular movement and created difficulties for commuters on major roads.
