Bhawanipatna, May 13: Voting is currently going on in five constituencies of Kalahandi district in the first phase election in Odisha on May 13. However, over 16 villages of Lanjigarh constituency have opted to boycott the electoral process, citing grievances over the lack of development and basic amenities within their communities despite their participation in the democratic system.

In this election, the villages that have boycotted their votes are Barguda, Sarguda, Patang Padar, Panasaguda, Tuanar, Sanakhalaguda, Sirikijhola, seven villages and jugasaipatna Panchayat Salpang Booth No. 34, Khojurguda, Kadrusru, Bandma, Katilang, Salpang booth 5.

In these particular panchayats, a multitude of issues ranging from access to clean drinking water, electricity, transportation, network connectivity, education, and healthcare persist. Despite advancements in other parts of the country, these communities have been left behind.
