Bhapur, July 22: A class X girl student committed suicide by consuming poison after her father reprimanded her for wasting time in making reels instead of studying in Odisha.
The tragic incident took place in Sunakhala village under Fathegarh police limits in Nayagarh district on Subday. The deceased has been identified as Gayatri Mallik (14), daughter of Ananta Charan Mallik.
According to reports, the minor girl used to be busy in making reels and uploading on social media. On Sunday morning, her father scolded her and reprimanded to concentrate on studies following which she consumed poison.
Family members rushed her to the Bhapur Community Health Centre after they came to know about her suicide attempt. Later, she was shifted to Khordha hospital as her health condition deteriorated, where she died while undergoing treatment.
Police sent the body for post-mortem registering an unnatural death case.
