Balasore, Sept 30: Vehicular movement was disrupted on National Highway-16 in Soro, Balasore district, on Wednesday as the Naba Nirman Yuva Chhatra Sangathan observed a 12-hour Odisha shutdown.

The shutdown began at 6 am, with members of the organisation staging protests and a road blockade on NH-16 in the Soro police station area. Hundreds of vehicles were reportedly stranded on both sides of the highway, causing significant inconvenience to passengers and drivers.

The protesters said the shutdown was called over alleged irregularities in the government's distribution of books. They warned that the agitation would be intensified if their demands were not fulfilled.
However, ambulances and people travelling for medical purposes were exempted from the blockade, according to the protesters.
The disruption has severely affected traffic on the busy national highway, leaving several commuters stranded and causing considerable inconvenience to travellers.
