Cuttack, Oct 21: A 37-year-old man was allegedly murdered at a private de-addiction centre in Uttamapur village under Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack.

The deceased has been identified as Soumyaranjan Das, son of Rabindra Das of Rajbazar area in Jatani.

According to sources, Soumyaranjan had been admitted to the “Samparka” rehabilitation and de-addiction centre about two months ago for treatment. On the night of Diwali, a quarrel reportedly broke out among some inmates of the facility over an unknown issue, which later turned violent. Several inmates were allegedly involved in a physical altercation during the scuffle.

Early this morning, staff members of the centre reportedly found Soumyaranjan lying unconscious and rushed him to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Upon getting the information, Sadar police reached the spot and seized the body before sending it for post-mortem.

Police have also detained four inmates for questioning in connection with the alleged murder.

The exact cause of death and the circumstances leading to the incident will be ascertained soon, said the police.
