100 'Police Mitras' from slums in Bhubaneswar registered

Bhubaneswar, Novv 7: A programme for induction of ‘Police Mitras’ under ‘Basti Ku Chala’ abhiyan has been inaugurated by Commissionerate Police at Reserve Police Ground. Police Commisioner S K Priyadarsi graced the occasion as chief guest and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Umashankar Dash addressed the gathering. “The voluntary participation of ‘Police Mitras’ from 30 focus slums will be helpful to monitor the activities of the slums and it will be helpful to police,” said Priyadarsi. “As many as 100 Police Mitras registered their name and there is a plan to increase the number to 1000. Security from friendship (bandhutwa ru surakhsya) with slum people and mainly its youth is the motto of the initiative,” said Dash. The Police Mitras are provided with specially designed T-Shirt and cap as their special identification. They were inducted after thorough verification of their criminal back ground and antecedents. They were strictly warned by DCP Bhubaneswar not to use their position for any personal use or benefits.
