Bhadrak, Oct 6: In a tragic incident, a 10-year-old girl lost her life on Sunday evening after being struck by a collapsing concrete slab from an under-construction underpass in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.

The accident occurred at Bishnupur Chhack on National Highway 16. According to reports, the young girl, daughter of Bhaja Malik from Bentalia village, was on her way to the market when a slab from the underpass suddenly gave way and fell on her. She died on the spot.

The incident triggered outrage among local residents, who responded by setting fire to a machine being used in the ongoing construction work. In protest, they blocked the highway by placing the girl's body on the road, demanding compensation for the bereaved family and strict action against those responsible.

The situation remains tense as authorities work to manage the protest and investigate the cause of the collapse.
