Bhubaneswar, December 16: The Commissionerate Police has arrested two miscreants and launched a manhunt to nab the other accused involved in the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl in Dhauli area under Dhauli police station.

The arrested duo has been identified as Bibhuprasad Mishra of Banki and Kalandi Patra of Olatpur of Cuttack district.

For the context, the victim was allegedly gang-raped by two miscreants in front of her male friend in Dhauli area recently.

According to reports, the shocking incident occurred at around 7 PM on December 10 when the minor girl and her male friend were returning from Dhauli in a bike. A group of three-four miscreants intercepted them near a secluded place and dragged the girl to the Daya river bank. Of them, two men reportedly gang-raped the minor girl.

The miscreants allegedly recorded the crime on mobile phones and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident.

On December 11, a day after the heinous crime, the victim lodged a complaint with Dhauli police alleging two men had snatched her gold chain weighing 20 gram near Lingipur canal road, and fled.

However, the victim later revealed the entire incident in front of her mother resulting in lodging of a fresh complaint at Dhauli police station alleging gang-rape.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said that the Government will take appropriate action.

“We are considering fast-track court trial of the case for swift justice. The BJP Government has prioritised justice in criminal cases, particularly crimes against women. Stern legal action will be taken in this case too,” asserted Harichandan.

Meanwhile, the State Commission for Women has also taken cognizance of the heinous crime. The Commission members visited the crime spot and Dhauli police station to take stock of the situation.
