Mohana, Aug 5: At least 10 migrant workers were injured in a road accident on Monday near Chapadapanka village under the Mohana block in Odisha’s Gajapati district. The incident occurred when a pickup van carrying the labourers overturned after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
Sources said, the van, which was heading from Mohana to Adaba, veered off the road and overturned on a sharp bend. According to eyewitnesses, the driver appeared to have lost control while navigating a turn, causing the vehicle to skid and flip on its side.
All the passengers were contracted labourers employed by a private contractor and working with the Electricity Department in the Mohana and Chandragiri areas. The workers were being transported to their daily work sites when the accident happened.
Local villagers rushed to the scene and helped rescue the injured, who were initially taken to the Mohana Medical Centre via a 108 ambulance service. Due to the severity of their injuries, four of the workers were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment. The remaining six are reported to be in stable condition.
All the injured workers are from Mayurbhanj district and were working under contractual arrangements.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
