New Delhi, June 3: At least 20 people lost their lives and 47 were rescued on Wednesday after a fire broke out at a restaurant in the Malviya Nagar area of New Delhi, according to police officials.

Earlier, Delhi Police reported that 11 people had been rescued from the site by personnel from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) and were taken to a hospital for medical treatment. However, authorities later confirmed that the death toll had risen to 20.

Emergency response teams rushed to the scene after the Delhi Fire Services received a distress call at approximately 9:45 a.m. Firefighters carried out rescue operations and successfully evacuated three individuals from the restaurant’s basement. The rescued victims were transported to the hospital by CATS ambulances.

Divisional Officer Ravinder from the Nehru Place Fire Station is overseeing operations at the site. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, while rescue and relief efforts remain ongoing.
