Bhubaneswar, December 11: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, accompanied by MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik, visited Malkangiri district on Thursday to assess the situation following recent violence. The two ministers met with local MLAs, representatives, and senior district officials, including the Collector, ADGP (Naxal operations), DIG (Southern Range), and the SP, to discuss the prevailing unrest in MV-26 village.

During the meeting, Singh Deo assured that there had been no further incidents of violence in MV-26 village over the past 60 hours. The violence began when a tribal group from the neighboring Rakhelguda village allegedly attacked the Bengali settlement in MV-26 on Sunday and Monday.

The attack stemmed from anger over the discovery of a headless body of a tribal woman near the Poteru river on December 4. The villagers suspected that a resident of MV-26 was responsible for the woman's death, with her severed head found 15 km away on Wednesday.
