Operational Readiness Achieved at Jewar
Recent progress at the Noida International Airport has reached a decisive turning point. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) formally granted security clearance on Thursday, effectively green-lighting the facility's safety protocols. This validation covers essential emergency frameworks, including anti-hijack strategies and bomb threat contingency plans. With these regulatory hurdles cleared, the path is now open for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to perform its concluding inspection.
Licensing and Upcoming Flight Schedule
Expectations are high that the official aerodrome licence will be issued within a week following the DGCA's visit. Once this permit is secured, the facility intends to launch domestic passenger travel and cargo services within a 45-day window. While initial flights will focus on Indian destinations, international routes are slated to begin by September. Major carriers such as IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India are poised to open ticket bookings the moment the final licensing is confirmed.
Current infrastructure is fully prepared to manage an annual flow of 12 million travelers. Construction teams have finished the terminal roofing, internal facilities, and the primary runway. Additionally, the air traffic control tower stands ready for active duty. To ensure seamless transitions, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has already assumed control of the premises, with dedicated residential quarters established for their personnel on-site.
Leadership and Connectivity
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently highlighted the national importance of this project, noting it will soon stand as the largest airport in the country. Although some procedural discussions arose regarding the Swiss nationality of CEO Christoph Schnellmann, government officials have ensured that leadership status will not delay operations. On the ground, a new 750-meter link road now connects the terminal directly to the Yamuna Expressway, ensuring easy access for commuters.
