​​​​​​​Angul, Jan 3: Industrial estates of Angul have been suffocating with alarming air & environmental pollution, Talcher Municipality has been meanwhile alerted as the nation’s most polluted place with having AQI 355.

Waking up with the concerning AQI in Talcher, the Angul district administration has imposed some restrictions in the area to contain air pollution, preventing some triggers that largely contribute to an unhealthy atmosphere here.

In light of the deteriorating air quality in Talcher Municipality in Angul, the district administration has issued guidelines as per GRAP Stage-II framework.

Accordingly, civil construction activities are ordered to be prohibited daily between 10 AM to 6:00 PM whereas, and demolition or earth moving work within municipality limits is completely banned.

To do away with dust pollution, the Talcher Municipality, NHAI, and MCL will collaborately conduct water sprinkling on roads at least thrice a day. Heavy trucks are barred from entering the Talcher town, and open burning of waste, coal, or any kind of fire is strictly prohibited.

Additional measures include restrictions on coal and ash truck movement during the day, and only covered trucks are allowed on NH-149. The NHAI and the Executive Engineer, NH Division, Pallahara, have been assigned ensure water sprinkling at construction sites.

The order, effective for 7 days, is enforceable under Section 163(2) of the BNSS. Authorities, including police and RTO, are directed to ensure strict compliance, with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Talcher, to monitoring and submitting daily reports to the Regional Office, Pollution Control Board and District Collector, Angul.
