
Boudh, Oct 23: At least two women laborers were killed and nine others sustained injuries when a pickup van carrying them collided head-on with a speeding truck at Kumelbandh on the Boudh-Kandhamal border area in Odisha on Thursday.
The identities of the deceased persons are yet to be ascertained.
As per reports, the labourers were traveling from the Kuchinda area in Sambalpur to Balandapada in Kandhamal for road construction work when the accident occurred. The collision was so severe that two women labourers died instantly at the scene. The nine injured workers were immediately taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Following the mishap, the truck driver fled the scene and is still at large.
Upon getting the information, Kantamal police arrived at the scene and launched a probe into the matter.
Further investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident is underway and efforts are on to track down the fleeing driver, said the police.
