Manipur/ New Delhi, Jan 26: Thirteen officers and personnel from the Manipur Police have been conferred prestigious awards, including the Medal for Gallantry (GM), President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), and Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day.

Among the recipients of the Medal for Gallantry are Assistant Sub-Inspector Langoljam Lenin Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sidrath Thokchom, Havildar Thounaojam Nichal Singh, Rifleman Kumam Premananda Singh, and Constable Ngasepam Vim Singh, recognised for their exceptional bravery.

MPS Deputy Superintendent of Police, CID (SB), Khuraijam Shashikumar Singh was honoured with the President's Medal for Distinguished Service for his exemplary contribution to the force.

The Medal for Meritorious Service was awarded to several distinguished officers, including Superintendent of Police, CID (SB), Rajkumar Manbindu Singh; Commandant of the 6th IRB, Pangei, Sarangthem Ibomcha Singh; MPS Assistant Commandant of the 7th IRB, Uchathol Kshetrimayum Prasanta Kumar Singh; Havildar of the 1st IRB, Nehkholal Gangte; Rifleman of MPTC, Chungkham Premchand Singh; Assistant Sub-Inspector of CID(S), Pukhrambam Bijen Singh; and Rifleman of the 1st IRB, Kamlemsang.

In a separate announcement, 33 officers of the Delhi Police were recognised for their bravery, including 14 officers who were honoured with Gallantry Medals. Among the notable recipients are Additional Commissioner of Police, Pramod Singh Kushwah, Sub Inspector Rajeev Kumar, and SI Shibu R.S., who were awarded for their courageous role in apprehending terrorist Javed Ahmed Mattu, a member of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen, wanted for multiple terrorist attacks.

Inspector Amit Nara, Sub-Inspector Satish Kumar, SI Udham Singh, and SI Brajpal Kushwah were also honoured for their daring actions in the detention of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) terrorist Arshdeep Singh on November 26, 2023. Their bravery and risk to life in saving their fellow team members and protecting the public earned them the Medal for Gallantry.

Additionally, two officers from the Delhi Police were awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service, while 17 officers received the Medal for Meritorious Service for their exceptional service.

The Central Government also announced the names of 982 personnel from police, fire services, Home Guard and Civil Defence (HG&CD), and correctional services who will be awarded gallantry and service medals this Republic Day. Of these, 125 personnel will receive Gallantry Medals, 101 will be awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 756 will be honoured with the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).

Republic Day, celebrated annually on January 26, marks the adoption of India's Constitution in 1950, transforming the nation into a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. The day commemorates India’s independence struggle and the establishment of constitutional governance based on the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
