US President labels Denmark ungrateful regarding Greenland territory control.

Global diplomatic tensions took center stage at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland this Wednesday. US President Donald Trump delivered a stinging critique of Denmark regarding the strategic territory of Greenland. In a move that has shaken the summit, Trump labeled Denmark "ungrateful" and openly questioned the historical decision to return the island to Danish control following World War II.

Speaking to an audience at Davos, the US President argued that the United States made a mistake decades ago. He stated that America was "stupid" to hand Greenland back after saving the territory during the war. Trump emphasized that while Denmark had fallen to German forces and could not defend itself, the US stepped in to protect the hemisphere. He expressed frustration that this historical protection has not been met with what he considers appropriate gratitude today.

While Trump noted his respect for the people of Denmark, he remained firm on security matters. He insisted that no other nation is capable of securing Greenland effectively. According to the President, the Arctic region is becoming a hotbed for competition, with major powers like Russia and China seeking advantages as ice levels melt. He argued that Greenland is vital for both US and NATO security, a task he believes only Washington can manage.

These remarks have created visible friction among western allies. NATO Chief Mark Rutte acknowledged the rising temperature within the alliance, calling for careful diplomacy to handle the situation. Meanwhile, France has offered to support NATO exercises in the region, and Greenland’s Prime Minister has issued a stern warning, telling the island’s 57,000 residents to be prepared for the possibility of military force.

The controversy overshadowed the President’s arrival, which was already delayed. His original flight on Air Force One had to turn back due to a technical glitch, forcing him to switch aircraft. Despite the late landing in Zurich, the Donald Trump Greenland controversy has quickly become the main talking point of the economic forum.
