Odisha boosts poultry sector with export plans and subsidies

Bhubaneswar: With the aim of transforming the state into a self-sufficient hub for poultry production, a significant step was taken this Wednesday. The Agricultural Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (APICOL), joining forces with the Fisheries and Animal Resource Development Department (F&ARD), successfully convened a State Level Buyer Seller Meet on Eggs on December 3, 2025.

The event served as a crucial convergence point for various stakeholders in the industry. It brought together layer farmers, egg traders, and exporters alongside officials from the Export Inspection Agency and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). The primary agenda was to explore the untapped potential of Odisha’s layer sector, specifically focusing on the production, marketing, and global export of eggs.

A major highlight of the gathering was the discussion surrounding the stringent quality standards and certification protocols required to take Odisha’s produce to international markets. Experts provided insights into the current landscape of egg marketing, outlining both the challenges and the lucrative opportunities available for local entrepreneurs.

Shri Suresh Kumar Vashishth, IAS, Principal Secretary of the F&ARD Department, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he placed a strong emphasis on the state government's commitment to supporting the farming community. He highlighted the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), a flagship scheme designed to empower agri-entrepreneurs.

"The state is committed to encouraging entrepreneurs by supporting them with a subsidy of up to 50 percent, capped at Rs 1 Crore, on capital investment for establishing agri and allied enterprises," Shri Vashishth noted, urging stakeholders to ramp up egg production.

Other dignitaries, including Shri Vijay Amruta Kulange, IAS, Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, and Shri Shubhranshu Mishra, Managing Director of APICOL, reinforced the message of building a resilient ecosystem. They discussed the necessity of policy interventions and business collaborations to strengthen the supply chain.

This strategic meet not only highlighted Odisha's growing prominence as an investment destination for the poultry industry but also paved the way for concrete solutions to bridge the gap between production and market demand.
