Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that the low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 27.
According to the Met Department, the weather system, which developed at around 5:30 a.m. today morning, kept drifting west‑northwestward.
The IMD predicted that the system may intensify into a depression by October 25, a deep depression by October 26, and could develop into a cyclonic storm over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay by the morning of October 27.
According to the IMD, as of 8:30 am (IST) today, the system remained over the same region after moving slowly west-northwest over the past three hours.
The regional weather office forecasts that the system will steadily intensify along its current path, potentially developing into a well-marked low-pressure area, then a depression, and eventually a cyclonic storm within 72 hours.
Coastal districts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal are expected to experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas under its influence starting October 25.
