Kolkata, February 28: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal, which began in November last year, has led to the deletion of around 63.66 lakh names—approximately 8.3% of the electorate—bringing the state's voter tally to just over 7.04 crore ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in April, according to Election Commission officials.

The revised post-SIR rolls, released on Saturday after a comprehensive 116-day exercise, also reveal that over 60 lakh electors are currently in the "under adjudication" category, awaiting decisions by judicial officers in the coming weeks. This ongoing review process may further impact the electorate distribution at the constituency level.

The draft rolls, which were initially published on December 16, had already reduced the voter base from 7.66 crore to 7.08 crore, eliminating more than 58 lakh names due to death, migration, duplication, and untraceability. After hearings, scrutiny, and the resolution of claims and objections, an additional 5,46,053 deletions were made through Form-7 applications, pushing the total number of deletions linked to the SIR process to around 63.66 lakh.
