Indigenous wearable device brings advanced artificial intelligence to eyewear

Indian innovation took center stage at the ongoing India AI Impact Expo 2026, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered a glimpse into the future of wearable technology. During a walkthrough at Bharat Mandapam, the Prime Minister was spotted wearing a sleek, futuristic device that resembles ordinary spectacles but packs a powerful technological punch.

This device is the Sarvam Kaze AI smart-glass, a fully indigenous product developed by Sarvam AI. Unlike standard glasses, this wearable is designed to listen, understand, and visualize the world exactly as the user sees it. It represents a significant leap from screen-based intelligence to real-world interaction.

Pratyush Kumar, Co-Founder of Sarvam AI, shared the moment on social media platform X, revealing that the Prime Minister was the first person to officially test the device's capabilities. The photo captured PM Modi navigating the expo floor while testing the gadget's real-time response features. Kumar announced that this "Designed in India, Built in India" product is scheduled to hit the market in May.

Sarvam Kaze allows users to build custom experiences using the Sarvam platform. It is part of a broader suite of 12 indigenous AI models aimed at solving India-specific challenges. Beyond this smart-glass, the startup has recently unveiled nearly a dozen other solutions, including Sarvam Akshar for document digitization and Sarvam Studio for multilingual content creation.

This development aligns with the government's robust push for technological democratization. The India AI Mission, launched with an outlay of over Rs 10,000 Crore, has rapidly accelerated the ecosystem. In less than two years, the mission has onboarded over 38,000 GPUs to support startups and academia.

Currently, 12 teams are shortlisted to develop indigenous foundational models, while 30 applications have been approved to build specific AI solutions for India. With the Sarvam Kaze AI smart-glass, India is demonstrating that it is no longer just a consumer of technology, but a creator of cutting-edge global solutions.
