Mercury to climb up while dense fog warnings persist
Bhubaneswar: Residents across Odisha can expect a slight relief from the biting cold as the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has predicted a change in weather patterns starting today, January 19, 2026. According to the latest bulletin, night temperatures are set to witness an upward trend.
Rise in Minimum Temperatures
The weather office has forecast a gradual rise in the minimum temperature (night temperature) by 2°C to 3°C over the next two days. Following this brief period of warming, no large change in temperatures is expected over the districts of Odisha. While the chill may reduce slightly, dry weather continues to prevail across the state.
Current Cold Wave Conditions
Despite the predicted rise, the interior pockets of the state are still gripping with intense cold. On Monday, G. Udayagiri recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at a freezing 3.2°C, followed closely by Phulbani at 6.8°C.
In the coastal belt, the capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 11.6°C, while Cuttack stood at 11.4°C. On the other end of the spectrum, Jharsuguda recorded the highest maximum temperature at 32.1°C.
Fog Warning Issued
While the temperature rises, visibility is likely to drop. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for shallow to moderate fog for several districts over the next five days (up to January 24).
Commuters in these areas are advised to drive with caution during early morning hours due to reduced visibility.
