Malkangiri, Nov 19: A tragic incident unfolded at the Gumajharan Waterfall in Khairaput block on Tuesday, where two college students went missing after being swept away by strong currents. Despite extensive search efforts, the duo remains untraceable.

According to reports, a group of five students had visited the waterfall for a picnic. While bathing, three of them were dragged away by the current due to alleged carelessness. Local residents managed to rescue one of the students, but the other two could not be located.

Police and Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot soon after and initiated a search operation. Following a complaint lodged by the families of the missing students at Mathili Police Station, an ODRAF team also joined the rescue efforts. However, no breakthrough has been achieved so far.

The missing students have been identified as S. Srikar and Lingaraj Mohapatra, both studying at Vikram Deb College, Jeypore.
