Notorious gangster arrives in Delhi following major US deportation operation

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough for Indian law enforcement agencies, the United States has deported Anmol Bishnoi, a high-profile fugitive and the younger brother of incarcerated gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi. He arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday morning aboard a special flight carrying approximately 200 Indian nationals.

The chartered flight, which landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport around 10:00 am, was part of a coordinated deportation effort. Alongside Anmol, the passengers included two individuals wanted by Punjab Police and 197 undocumented migrants who were residing in the US illegally.

The Crime File

Anmol Bishnoi has been on the radar of Indian intelligence for his alleged involvement in several sensational crimes. He is a prime accused in the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was shot dead in October 2024. Additionally, investigation agencies have linked him to the high-profile firing incident outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra earlier this year.

According to police sources, Anmol managed to flee India in April 2022 using a forged passport. His escape occurred just weeks prior to the brutal killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala. For over two years, he reportedly navigated between the US and Canada using fraudulent travel documents while continuing to orchestrate criminal activities via encrypted messaging apps.

Detention and Monitoring

Reports indicate that Anmol was detained in California last year. During his time in the US, he was placed under strict surveillance, which included wearing a GPS-enabled ankle monitor—a standard procedure for individuals under judicial watch or parole in the States. His deportation was ultimately processed from Louisiana.

Reactions and Custody Battle

Confirming the development, former MLA Zeeshan Siddique, son of the late Baba Siddique, stated that US authorities had notified him via email regarding Anmol’s removal from American soil. Zeeshan, who has been actively coordinating with agencies regarding his father’s case, urged the central government to ensure immediate arrest protocols are followed.

As Anmol returns to Indian soil, a tussle for his custody is expected. While the Mumbai Crime Branch has long sought his extradition for state-level cases, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is likely to step in first. Given the Bishnoi gang's alleged interstate terror links, federal agencies are expected to take the lead in the interrogation process.
