Sonepur, Dec 8: In a shocking and gruesome incident, a 70-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the Binika area of Odisha's Sonepur district on Sunday. The woman's family has alleged that she was raped and murdered.

The body was found in a paddy field in the village of Danipali, after the elderly woman, a resident of Manharipada in Binika town, had been missing for several days. Local reports indicate that the body was found in a disturbing condition, with visible injuries, bleeding from the nose, and the woman’s body found naked.

The family, led by Basanti Mallick, the deceased’s daughter, has lodged a formal complaint at the Binika Police Station, accusing the culprits of brutally raping and murdering the woman before discarding her body in the field.

In response to the complaint, police officers arrived at the scene to recover the body. Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of death and identify the individuals responsible for the alleged crime.

Worth mentioning, a similar incident was surfaced from the Rairakhol police station area in Sambalpur, where a minor girl was allegedly raped, followed by a rape attempt on her elder sister. While the police have arrested the accused, such incidents continue to occur on a daily basis in Odisha. In fact, the state has made headlines for a series of disturbing sexual assault cases, raising serious concerns about the safety of women and minors.

Despite law enforcement actions, the frequency of such crimes in Odisha has sparked public outrage. The ongoing series of sexual assaults has put the spotlight on the need for stronger preventive measures and greater security for vulnerable individuals. As authorities continue to investigate the case, there is increasing pressure to tackle this disturbing trend and ensure justice for victims.
