Sambalpur, Jan 8: The official website of Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) was hacked on Wednesday, raising concerns over cyber security. The hackers replaced the homepage with the Pakistani flag and the slogan "Pakistan Zindabad" written clearly. While there has been no official confirmation of the hackers' identity, it is strongly suspected that Pakistani hackers are behind conspiracy. Following the breach, the university immediately shut down the website and began investigating the incident. The website was successfully restored later by the university's technical team.

According to reports, the activity was noticed around 8 PM when several students were browsing the official GMU website for exam-related information. They were surprised to find the Pakistani flag displayed along with derogatory messages supporting Pakistan. The university authorities were immediately informed about the breach.

Uma Charan Pati, the Registrar of GMU, stated that the website contained only general public information and no sensitive data was compromised. However, once the breach was detected, immediate action was taken, and the website was restored by the technical team. Investigations are underway to determine the hacker's identity. Although the attackers' details are yet to be confirmed, the presence of pro-Pakistani slogans has raised suspicions regarding their origin.

The local police have been notified about the incident, and an investigation is underway.

In a statement, Pati assured students that the hack would not cause any inconvenience to them. All important information, including exam schedules, is being shared with students via WhatsApp groups. Therefore, despite the website hack, there has been no disruption in the students' access to necessary updates. The university has made it clear that it is taking steps to prevent further incidents and ensure the website is fully secure moving forward.

The website has been restored to its previous working condition late in the night, and all content uploaded by the hackers has been removed. Sambalpur’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Shashank Beura, confirmed that the website was quickly restored after the hack and that an investigation is still ongoing.
