Keonjhar, Oct 3: In one of the rarest cases of crime, Assistant Block Development Officer (ABDO), Bant killed his wife on Thursday, slitting her throat with a sharp axe.
Though the gruesome incident wreaked a shock wave in Odisha’s Keonjhar & Bhadrak district where the bloodbathed victim was rushed to, for her resuscitation; the horrific murder committed by the Class II officer, that too before his college-going daughter in broad daylight, let others to think of something unpardonable,from the victim’s side.However, the scene and the onlookers reveal that there was nothing unusual in the Jena family on the fateful morning where sitting ABDO of the Bant Panchayat Samiti in the Bhadrak district, Debi Prasad Jena axed his wife, identified as Sudeshna Jena, over a silly matter.
According to the immediate neighbors’ account and primary investigation of the Nandipada Police, the sequence of the incident was nothing serious or provoking. Sudeshna, as a housewife, was preparing her Sudasa Brata & Vijaya Dasami Puja, on the last day of the Dussehra in the morning.Meanwhile, his husband asked her for a sickle, to dress a hibiscus plant, went wild in their yard.As she was busy at the rituals, she asked her daughter to help his father bringing a sickle.Accordingly, the daughter, reportedly a higher secondary student handed over the tool. After sometime, Jena came to the Puja place and asked his wife, “Where you were for the last four months?” Responding to it, the woman said, I was with my parents’ for betterment of my son’s study. Agrieved over it, the public servant rushed to the lumber room, fetched the axe and violently hit Sudeshna by her neck. The man, who was in the fit of rage also tried to axe his daughter as she tried to resist him forcefully, in a bid to save her mother. As a result, Sudeshna collapsed on the spot in a poll of blood who, was declared dead in the DHH Bhadrak later.
According to the Jena’s family members’ accounts, ABDO Jena had ostracized his married wife Sudeshna for years while he was in extramarital affairs with one of his in-laws.He was not even taking care of his offspring, a son & a daughter, who were living in their maternal house.
Though, the investigating team has not yet ascertained the precise cause behind the murder, statements of the offspring and the relatives’ accounts reveal that, marital discord following the extramarital affairs of the unscrupulous officer and the vehement opposition to it from the spouse and offspring is the underlying cause behind the tragic ruin of a sweet home and a peaceful middle-class family within a few minutes’ storm.
The police are yet to resolve the crossword puzzle i.e why the senior PR officer lost control over his rage, put his family & social life at stake killing own wife, to whom he had once married on a sacred altar, following due affilation from family and friends. The specific reason will come to the limelight after the ABDO who is on the run, will be apprehended by the sleuths.
The harrowing incident took place at Danra village under the Nandipada police limit in the Keonjhar district yesterday.
