Berhampur, Dec 25: In a shocking case of fraud, a youth has been arrested for allegedly scamming more than ₹1 crore from over 500 unemployed youths in the Ganjam district of Odisha by promising them jobs in Singapore. The victims, mostly youths, reported that they were promised employment opportunities in Singapore in exchange for large sums of money.

According to the complaints filed at the Sadar police station, each victim paid around ₹30,000 to the accused in the hope of securing a job abroad. The accused, identified as Subrata Pal, was arrested on Wednesday from his residence in the third line of Hilapatna. Police investigation revealed that Subrata had previously been involved in multiple cases across different regions, including Berhampur Town Police Station in Kandhamal and Vijaynagaram in Andhra Pradesh.

Upon his arrest, the police seized several crucial documents from Subrata's possession, including a flight ticket copy, a computer-generated work order from a Singaporean company, passport visa documents, and other paperwork related to the fraudulent job offers. These documents are currently under further investigation.

Police are continuing to probe the extent of the scam and are looking into other possible accomplices involved in the operation.
