Dhenkanal, Oct 30: A baby elephant, approximately 3-4 months old, was successfully rescued from an abandoned well near Kurunti village under the Dhenkanal Sadar range in Odisha.
According to reports, the young calf fell into the 5-foot deep well while traveling with its herd and mother early this morning. Although the rest of the herd moved away from the area, the mother elephant remained behind, refusing to leave her trapped calf.
After several attempts to free her baby, the mother elephant managed to help the calf out of the well. Once the calf was safely rescued, the mother and her baby walked back into the forest together.
Forest department officials, who were informed of the incident, arrived at the location for an investigation into the matter.
