Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: In the heart of Odisha’s vibrant music landscape, one voice stood out—raw, soulful, and hauntingly powerful. That voice belonged to Humane Sagar, a singer whose melodies carried both emotional depth and an unmistakable sincerity. On November 17, 2025, the music industry fell silent as news broke of his passing at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, marking an abrupt and heartbreaking end to a career that had touched millions. The loss rippled across the state, leaving fans, fellow musicians, and industry veterans stunned.

Roots of rhythm: A childhood immersed in music

Born on November 25, 1990, in Titlagarh of Balangir district, Humane Sagar was destined for music. Coming from a lineage of composers—both his father and grandfather were music directors—his childhood was filled with the hum of harmoniums, the rhythm of tabla beats, and the warmth of melodies created at home. That early immersion shaped his musical instincts long before the world discovered his talent.

A star is born: Rise through reality TV

Humane’s defining moment arrived in 2012, when he stepped onto the stage of Voice of Odisha Season 2. His very first performance captivated audiences, and by the time he lifted the winner’s trophy, a new star had been born. The win opened doors to the Odia film industry, and in 2015, he made his playback debut with Ishq Tu Hi Tu. The title track became an instant sensation, carrying his voice across Odisha and establishing him as a formidable talent.

A decade of hits: Voice of a generation

Over the next ten years, Humane Sagar became synonymous with modern Odia music.

He recorded 150+ film songs and nearly 200 album tracks, contributing to over 50 films—a staggering output for an artist so young. His repertoire boasted chartbusters like Sehzadi O Sehzadi, Mu Pardesi Chadhei, Sunn Zara, Gote Suaa Gote Sari, Tum Mo Love Story, and Nishwasa To Bina Chalena. Each carried his signature blend of emotion and clarity.

Beyond Odia cinema, he also explored Hindi music, releasing an album titled “Mera Yeh Jahan.” His voice frequently became the musical avatar of top Ollywood actors, particularly Anubhav Mohanty, for whom he often sang major hits.

The artistry: A voice that spoke to the soul

Humane’s voice held something more than technical prowess—it held vulnerability. He had the rare ability to infuse every note with emotion, creating an intimate connection with listeners. Whether singing a romantic ballad, a devotional track, or a soulful breakup song, he made each performance feel personal.

Fans adored him not only on recordings but also during live shows, where his energy and sincerity turned crowds into choirs.

Behind the spotlight: Challenges and battles

But behind the acclaim lay personal and health struggles. In his final days, he was admitted to the ICU, battling multi-organ dysfunction syndrome, acute-on-chronic liver failure, bilateral pneumonia, and heart complications. Despite aggressive treatment, his condition deteriorated.

Amid these health issues, his mother later claimed that he had continued performing despite being unwell—an allegation that sparked concern within the industry. On the personal front, his marriage to fellow singer and Voice of Odisha contestant Shriya Mishra had unraveled over time, leaving behind a daughter.

The aftermath: A state in mourning

The announcement of his passing—at just 36—cast a pall over Odisha. Tributes flooded social media as fans shared memories, music clips, and heartfelt messages. The Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, called his death “an irreparable loss to the music and film industry.”

Colleagues described him as humble, hardworking, and deeply committed to his craft.

His final battle in the ICU, though valiant, ended too soon. The official cause—multi-organ dysfunction, heart failure, pneumonia, and chronic liver complications—only deepened the tragedy.

A legacy that lives on

Humane Sagar may have left the world young, but his music remains timeless. His songs continue to play at weddings, in roadside tea stalls, in cars, and across radio stations—echoing his emotional honesty and artistic depth.
