​​​​​​​Kandhamal, Oct 20: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl under the pretense of buying her new shoes in Daringibadi area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

The accused, whose identity is yet to be known, is currently on the run.

As per reports, the victim, a Class 8 student, was living at home with her four younger siblings while their parents worked as bonded laborers outside Odisha.

Sources said that the accused told the girl on Friday afternoon that her parents had transferred money to his account to buy her a new pair of shoes. Trusting him, the minor went along with him. However, on the way to the market, he allegedly led her to a secluded location where he allegedly raped her.

Later, he threatened her with dire consequences if she discloses the matter before anyone. The incident came to light when the victim's health began to deteriorate following which she confided in her aunt about the incident.

Following this, her uncle, along with an ASHA worker and the village sarpanch, submitted a written complaint to the Daringibadi police.

An investigation has been initiated into the matter and manhunt is underway to apprehend the absconding culprit, said the police.
