Berhampur, Dec 31: The Berhampur Cyber Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in a cyber fraud case by recovering a portion of the money lost by a victim. The case involves a woman employee of a private bank who was cheated by fraudsters posing as developers.

According to police sources, the incident occurred in July when the fraudsters contacted the victim through a WhatsApp call, introducing themselves as developers. They convinced her to invest money in the form of a fixed deposit, claiming it was required for official purposes. Trusting their claims, the woman transferred ₹7,70,161 from her bank account.

Subsequently, realizing that she had been duped, the victim approached the cyber police and lodged a complaint. During the investigation, the cyber police traced the transactions and froze ₹4.40 lakh spread across 11 bank accounts linked to the accused.

Following court orders, the concerned bank has credited ₹1.67 lakh back to the complainant’s account with the assistance of the cyber police. Superintendent of Police Shravan Vivek M stated that efforts are underway to recover and return the remaining amount to the victim.

Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to remain vigilant against unsolicited investment offers circulated through social media and messaging applications. Citizens have been advised to verify such offers thoroughly before investing and to report cyber fraud incidents to the 1930 cyber helpline or the nearest police station.
